Our Story

Richter Landscape Company was formed in February of 2004, but the seed was planted generations before. John Richter has been fortunate to have uncompromising character, quality workmanship and a strong work ethic modeled before him. From an early age, he enjoyed working on projects with his father and grandfathers. These projects may have been small around-the-home projects, but they left a lasting impression on John. He was taught that if a job is worth doing, then it is worth doing right!

After working with a professional landscape company as a summer job in high school, John knew he wanted to pursue a career in the landscape industry. John chose to study Ornamental Horticulture at Auburn University. During his time at Auburn, John added to his professional landscape career by working for a local landscape company during the summers. He started his own landscape design and installation company and completed small residential projects.  This experience gave John the dream to eventually start a full service landscape company. Upon graduation John moved to Birmingham, AL and served as the landscape manager with a grading contractor. This experience allowed John to work on large scale commercial projects and various residential landscape projects. After several years in the Birmingham landscape market, John’s dream to start his full service landscape company came to light. In February of 2004, Richter Landscape Company began. John wanted to take the life lessons he learned and apply those to his own business.

Richter Landscape’s mission is to provide exceptional service and quality craftsmanship enabling our clients to enjoy their surroundings, while adding value to their property. Richter Landscape is also committed to the development of strong leaders whose main goal is to carry out the company’s mission. This goal will be met by the mentoring, training, and coaching of each team member.
